How?The way food is produced
is the main determinant of GHG emissions within the food system Most emissions in the food system occur at the agricultural production stage. Around half of these emissions are nitrous oxide and methane originating from farm animals. The other half is largely down to land use changes - principally due to deforestation. Relatively fewer emissions come from post production food processing and distribution.
